Bathroom Remodel & Drain Replacement in New Haven, CT
The Challenge
The homeowners in New Haven planned a complete bathroom remodel. Once the walls and floor were opened, it was clear the home was still running on its original plumbing: a cast iron drain stack, galvanized steel branch lines, and decades-old supply stops. Much of it showed heavy corrosion, mineral scale at the joints, and a section of drain below the bathroom that had badly deteriorated.
Galvanized pipe corrodes from the inside out, slowly choking flow, and old cast iron is prone to cracking and leaking at its joints. Tying brand new fixtures into that system would have put the finished bathroom at risk, so the homeowners chose to replace the piping while everything was open.
Our Solution
EcoFlow removed the old cast iron and galvanized piping and rebuilt the drain system in PVC. We installed a new PVC stack in the original wall chase, ran new branch drains to each fixture location, and added accessible cleanouts so the system can be serviced easily in the future. On the supply side, new PEX hot and cold lines were run to the bathroom.
In the basement, we completed a full replacement of the cast iron sanitary drain with new PVC, supported on strut channel hangers along the foundation wall and routed neatly around the water service and mechanical equipment. To protect the home going forward, we also installed a Moen whole-house leak detection valve on the main water line, which monitors the plumbing system and can automatically shut off the water if a leak is detected.
The Result
The home now has a modern, fully replaced drain system from the bathroom down to the basement, with clean runs, proper support, and cleanouts where they are needed. The new bathrooms are coming together on top of that solid foundation, with gray shaker vanities, marble tops, undermount sinks, and brushed nickel faucets. With the old piping gone and whole-house leak protection in place, the homeowners can enjoy their remodel without worrying about what is hidden behind the walls.
